Hope from Ghana: How Bloomberg Poached One of moblers’ Top Developers

One of our top developers in Ghana recently got hired by Bloomberg and will be relocating to London, England to start a terrific new job. Leead Durban, Chief Product Officer at moblers, sat with star developer Hope Dorkenoo to learn more about his story and the exciting job on the horizon.

Here is a summary of what Hope, shared with Leead:

Hope, 25, grew up in Akra and never imagined he will be one of moblers’ top developers. He lived there for most of his life. In secondary school, he showed a high aptitude for mathematics and logic, which led him to pursue a degree in General Engineering in university. During that time, he was in touch with a friend who worked in software engineering, and with his encouragement, Hope self-taught himself the basics of the industry.

Moving on to be one of moblers’ top developers

After working as a software developer for several years, Hope saw a moblers ad seeking talented, experienced developer to join their team. He applied and worked for our company for a year before he received the offer of a lifetime: to become a developer at Bloomberg and work from their London offices.

The decision wasn’t as easy as it may seem: Hope loved working as a top developer for moblers and had a very good life in Ghana, living in a house that he built with his own hands, near his parents (and supporting them), with a great, stable career. Moving to London to work for Bloomberg would mean leaving a life of comfort and the work that he loves and opening himself up to new professional challenges.

After much consideration, Hope realized that working for Bloomberg was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up. He credits moblers with his acceptance. He said that during his interview process, he felt as if there were no obstacles in his path, because he had done all of the requested tasks before at moblers. Moreover, he was very confident because, at moblers, he was solely responsible for huge projects, so he knew he could handle whatever challenge they tested him with.

While we are certainly sad to see Hope go, we are excited to see where this opportunity will take him, and of course, honored to have played a small but significant role in his upward trajectory.
