About the Platform

UIA Airlines, the former national airline of Ukraine (at the time under Israeli ownership), partnered with moblers to revolutionize its check‑in process and reduce operational costs at airport counters.

Previously, passengers had to check in at the airport or through a basic web page that opened only 24–72 hours before the flight — due to aircraft assignment processes. moblers built a sophisticated online check‑in system, enabling passengers to submit check‑in preferences from the moment the flight was opened in the airline’s host system — even a year in advance.

The platform served as an intermediary layer between the host system and the airline’s ticketing platform, collecting passengers’ seat choices and preferences months in advance, then submitting them to the host system at the right time window (24–72 hours before departure), while dynamically adapting to last‑minute aircraft changes.

The solution significantly improved efficiency: online check‑in adoption rose to over 70%, allowing the airline to cut counter staff from 5–6 agents to just 2 per flight — saving costs and improving the passenger experience.

The challenge

moblers overcame several technical and operational challenges to deliver a seamless check‑in experience:

  • Host System Constraints: Built an intermediary system that collected check‑in data early and submitted it to the host system only when allowed.

  • Dynamic Aircraft Assignment: Designed logic to adapt seat allocation to changing aircraft configurations.

  • Full Integration: Connected the platform with both the ticketing website and the host system to maintain consistent, reliable passenger data flow.
